Sara Byrd brought me 30 t-shirts and sweatshirts that belonged to her daughter Molly. These shirts represent a few of the activities, organizations, and interest that made up many of Molly’s early years. And the plan for Molly’s T-Shirt quilt was underway.
As my normal procedure, I took pictures of each of the shirts, cropped and modified the shirts, and measured the size needed for each logo/print. I transferred the electronic shirt images to my quilt software EQ8 and further edited the pictures. Using these, I then created a rough draft of the quilt.
Once I had Sara’s approval, I began the actual work on the quilt. White sashings were used on each of the blocks. Sara and Molly had purchased the fabric they wanted for the border, and the backing. The backing they chose was a beautiful soft Michael Miller fabric and it was great to work with.
Once I completed the loops quilting design on my longarm, I added the binding. Molly’s t-shirt quilt is so lovely. I am sure it holds many wonderful memories for Molly.
