My very creative cousin Cheryl Shivley Joyce has done it again, with her quilt “a nod to the hippie times.” Using her very inventive imagination, she created a 1960-s Hippie inspired quilt for one of her grandsons.
The front section of the quilt incorporates many bright colors, some of which take on the psychedelic look. Bright greens, yellows, reds are mixed with various figured blocks.
The back of the quilt is one large piece of a mingled design, but features an insert that Cheryl pieced showing the “peace” sign so prominent during the 1960’s. To incorporate this theme, I found a quilting design of a similar peace sign and used it throughout the quilt.
The quilt is truly a tribute to those days of bell-bottoms, sandals, beads, long hair, back-to-nature, and easy-going days. Cheryl’s quilt is truly a ‘nod to the hippie times.”
