Throughout her life, Carolyn Beale actively served in many organizations both at the local and state levels. I became acquainted with Carolyn during my years at the Collinsville Library. After I retired from the library, we would see each other at random community events. When we recently reconnected, Carolyn told me she had many t-shirts that she wanted to have made into a quilt. Thus, Carolyn’s T-Shirt Quilt became a project.
Shirts
Her shirts were a wonderful collection places Carolyn had visited, of local and national organizations, and events she had participated in, educational venues, and even political candidate shirts. Following my usual procedures when I create a quilt, I drafted a design using all the shirts. I chose a narrow colorful fabric to create the sashings between the shirts. A bright, multi-colored fabric was the choice for the backing.
Work is Completed
Using a swirly quilting design and a coordinating binding, Carolyn’s T-Shirt Quilt was complete. Just looking at it shows what a full and rewarding life Carolyn has had and I know it will bring many wonderful memories to her.
