During the last year, I have made several quilts and throws for Bonnie Pritchett using shirts of her late husband. Recently, she brought me 9 shirts and asked me to make at least 3 throws and hopefully 3 pillows. The shirts were all in excellent condition and the project of 9 shirts to 3 throws and 4 pillows began. (I’ll explain later why 4 pillows instead of the requested 3).
Using my computer software, I designed three different throws, and three styles for pillows. With the design drafts complete, I knew how many of the different quilt blocks I would need to cut.
Baskets for each throw and pillow were lined up on my cutting table. Once finished cutting the required pieces, I was very pleasantly surprised to find I had enough fabric for all the items, with a small section left over of each shirt. After completing the throws and pillows, I decided to make a fourth, complimentary, pillow, using the remaining small shirts pieces. And yes, I did!
All the items were assorted designs, with various coordinating fabrics and backings. 9 shirts to 3 throws and 4 pillows for Bonnie was a successful project and fun and challenging for me.
