All memory quilts are special and filled with memories and are in all sizes. Here are examples of two special quilts completed in May.
Candace Reedy’s Quilt
Candace Reedy contacted me in December about creating a quilt as a surprise for her mother, for Christmas. Due to prior customer orders, I gave her a completion date in April. She brought a large selection of a variety of sweaters, blouses, and shirts.
Work begins
Candace, with input from her sister, decided on a quilt design. I cut the clothes into 6 ½” blocks and stitched them together in rows. The colors of the blocks were nicely framed by white fabric. For quilting, I chose a floral design which repeated some of the designs in the blocks. Candace and her sister were gifting this beautiful quilt to their mother on Mother’s Day.
Dawn Myers’ Quilt
Dawn Myers also contacted me in December about making a twin-size quilt for her daughter, using her grandmother’s clothing. The clothes included blouses, pants, cotton, and stretchy knit tops.
Progress
The quilt design selected was composed of rectangles sewn together in patchwork-style blocks. With the mix of vibrant and light colors, the blocks were then framed using white fabric as sashing. This bright beautiful quilt will hold many memories for Dawn’s daughter, and I feel sure she will treasure it for years to come.
