Specialty Quilts

Necktie quilt

Specialty quilts are just what the title says: a quilt made from a special collection of a loved ones’ clothes to create a memory quilt or a collection of special t-shirts to created a treasured heirloom.

Memory Quilt:

Beautiful quilts can be made using shirts worn by a loved one. Or using shirts that hold special memories for you. I cut away the collars, hems, and pockets and use the remaining fabric.  I will work with you to  decide the type of quilt design and finished size for your quilt.  Extra fabric borders can to added to increase the size.  The price will be determined by the complexity of the quilt and the completed size.

QUILTING:

The price of quilting is determined by the size of your quilt and your choice of design.  To determine the size of your quilt, multiply the width (in inches) by the length of the quilt top to determine the square inches.  This total is multiplied by the price of the pattern you choose.  Most designs are in the range of $0.025 +.

BATTING

I keep a supply of  quality battings on hand, which I can sell you at cost.  These include 100%cotton, cotton/polyester blends, etc.  I can order a specific type if you request.  If you choose to supply your own batting, I reserve the right to refuse using certain brands that do not quilt well.

BINDING

For a cost of $.25 per perimeter inch, I can supply the binding.

QUILTING DESIGNS

I maintain a large selection of longarm edge-to-edge quilting designs, which are computer-driven.  If you have a specific theme, I will purchase that if at all possible and if it is available.

CUSTOM QUILTING

Custom quilting involves free-motion quilting and/or the use of rulers.  These designs are created with me directing the needle arm of my machine.  This type of quilting can be time-consuming and labor-intensive, which results in a slightly higher cost than the edge-to-edge designs.  This does produce a one of a kind quilt.

SET-UP FEE

This includes the research and time involved in obtaining and adjusting the quilting design to your quilt.  It also includes the time needed to load all three layers of your quilt, as well as trimming the final edges.

I require a deposit before I begin working on your quilt, which will be applied to the final cost of your quilt.  Also, the cost of return shipping and insurance on the package will be added to your final cost of the quilt.  I accept cash, personal check, and Venmo payments.

Long Arm Quilting

You have a beautiful quilt top that you have created. You chose just the right fabrics, pattern, and spent hours sewing it all together. It is now ready to be joined with the batting and backing to make it into a wonderful quilt.

I hope you will allow me to finish your quilt with the same dedication and care in which you created it.

I provide affordable long arm quilting using my Bernina Q20 long arm computerized quilting machine. My work environment is both smoke-free and pet-free. The maximum width I can quilt is 98″. I also quilt small items, such as baby quilts, wall hanging, and table runners.

I have a large collection of computerized quilt designs from which to choose.  If you have a particular design in mind, I will purchase it if available.  I also do custom and free-motion quilting.

I am very interested in quilting for you and want the finished product to be exactly what you envision, whether it is for a gift or something special for you. Please email or phone me as you begin the decision-making process.  We can discuss your ideas and thoughts about your quilt. I can add my input on what will or will not work. This is a partnership with the goal of a beautifully finished work of art.

  • Your quilt top needs to be “squared up” prior to being sent to me. This involves making sure all sides are straight.
  • Quilt top needs to be pressed so that all seams lie flat.
  • Remove loose threads.
  • There should be no beads, ribbons or other embellishments on your quilt top prior to my quilting it. You can add these later, when I return your completed quilt.
  • When I receive your quilt, if I find any problems, I will notify you and we will discuss solutions.
  • Place a safety pin at the side of the quilt that you consider the top. This allows me to load it correctly, and I will remove the pin once the quilt is loaded onto my machine.
  • Backing and batting must be 8” larger on each side of the quilt top.

Custom Quilts

All quilts are beautiful and useful works of art that can become a family heirloom. Custom quilts are those made especially for you from scratch. You pick the pattern or quilt design, the color scheme, and the finished size. I take it from there and create a one-of-a-kind quilt for you. This could be for a gift for someone special, or just a wonderful quilt for you and your family. These quilts can be made in any size – from crib size, large quilts. The design can be classic or modern. You may have seen a picture of a quilt you like. Send me the picture and I will try my best to duplicate the design in the colors and size you want.

The prices will vary according to the difficulty of the quilt design.  I will charge you the exact amount that I pay for the fabric, thread, and batting.  If you wish to purchase your own fabric, I will need to know what kind it is before I began your project.

The finished product with be uniquely yours.  No two quilts will be alike.
