Cheryl Joyce, my cousin, enjoys making quilts for others. She is creative with her choice of colors and quilt patterns, and often combines older fabrics she has saved with new fabrics. Her mother and grandmother taught Cheryl to quilt – a skill Cheryl has perfected. The combination of excellent teachers and her own creative skills have resulted in Cheryl’s beautiful quilts.
Bright and Happy
Over the past few months, I have had the privilege of quilting several of Chery’s recent beauties. One was a lovely quilt of beautiful shades of salmon and green colors. The pattern featured squares of solid fabric and 9-patch squares. The pictures of this quilt fail to capture the beauty and vibrancy of this quilt. It made me happy just working on it.
Gifts for others
For a recent nephew’s graduation, Cheryl created a lovely quilt using blacks, grays, and whites sewn together in a geometrical design. Cheryl’s excellent sewing skills make this one a real stand-out. Another gifted quilt featured beach-themed fabrics with designs of typical beach items such as flip-flops, beach balls, beach umbrellas. A fun seashore quilting design added to the theme of the quilt.
Not a surprise quilt
The last quilt featured is a Fruit of the Spirit quilt, which will be given to Cheryl’s daughter Hannah for her upcoming birthday. The quilt is created with a blend of blocks with each of the fruits of the spirits written on a block, solid fabric blocks, and a very creative 4-patch block. These four are just the latest of Cheryl’s beautiful quilts and I look forward to seeing more of her creations.
