In November 2023, Layne and Leslie brought me a large selection of clothes which belonged to Lester Aaron, their late grandfather. Three quilts were to be made: for Leslie, and for Layne – both granddaughters of Lester, and for Carolyn, their mother who was the daughter of Lester. I would begin after January creating these memories of Lester quilts.
Variety of clothes
Among the clothes I incorporated into the three quilts were dress pants, ties, and lots of cotton dress shirts. There was a large variety of textures, styles and colors.
Designs
I sent pictures of past quilts I had made and the girls quickly made their choices – each choosing a slightly different pattern. I designed computer images of each, and soon began working on one quilt at a time. For the borders, I purchased a floral fabric to use on all three quilts. I felt it connected the daughters and their mother in the memories of Lester found in the quilts.
Final Projects
For this project, I had a bonus: I had worked and worshipped with Lester Aaron in church through many years. As I worked on these quilts, I had many fond thoughts of Lester. It was special to be allowed to work on these memories of Lester quilts.
