Loretta contacted me in June about doing a quilt for her. She explained that she has been running marathons and is very proud of her accomplishments. Her t-shirts from each event were reminders of her year. Although she lives in Atlanta, she comes to my area in Virginia twice a year to visit her mom and other relatives. In June, she brought her shirts, extra fabric that her mom gave her, and even a small pieced unit that she had pieced herself. As a young girl, she said her mom had tried to teach her to piece quilts, but Loretta did catch the quilting or sewing bug. I designed a quilt using all her t-shirts; I also included several small blocks using the units she had done as a young girl. She also sent me a quote that she wanted to incorporate. I embroidered it and used it as a full-sized block. I used some of the fabric she had brought to add sashing between the blocks. She returned in December and picked up the completed quilt. The quilt is beautiful with all the lovely colors of the shirts. Loretta picked up the quilt in December and I think she is very pleased with the quilt.
