Great Memories for Kamryn

I love making memory quilts for young people and especially surprise ones! With her first 5 years of education at Burnt Chimney Elementary School in Franklin County, Virginia, there were great memories for Kamryn Altice.  Her life was also full of other wonderful adventures at church, camps, and activities that her Mom and Dad provided.   Her parents also encouraged her to participate in many hobbies and activities.

Memory Quilt Surprise

The t-shirts were a wonderful, varied collection of themes and colors.  Tie-dying was a theme that was seen through-out the years and most of the shirts were colorful examples of this art.  The shirts represented various years from school, church Bible school, gymnastics, and other activities.

Quilt Design

Since the shirts were so bright and colorful, we decided on a basic 6 x 4 block design, with borders between the blocks. Teal fabric (a favorite color of Kamryn) was used for the background, and it blended all the t-shirt colors together nicely.  The tie-dyed theme of the shirts just called for a bright unique backing.  I sent several examples to Layne, and she chose “Royal Jewel” by Timeless Treasures.  It was the right choice for the quilt.

Special Gift

The colors and textures of all the shirts fit together so nicely in this treasure of a quilt. The choices of backing and border colors just added the final touch to bring it all together.  And I know it is filled with great memories for Kamryn. Her parents presented the quilt as a surprise for her graduation from elementary school.
