Gail’s Necktie Memory Quilt
Work Begins
The first step after washing the ties was to carefully take them apart, press them and prepare to cut them to size. I pressed a thin layer of stabilizer along the length of each tie. Using an extra- large wedge ruler that my husband Richard designed and cut out of thick acrylic, I determined the length needed for the ties. After laying out the ties in the order I preferred, I sewed the ties together and carefully stitched them onto the background fabric. Next step was at my Bernina longarm machine, where I added the machine quilting, using a variety of free motion designs.
Work Completed
Once the quilting was finished, I added the binding and Gail’s memory quilt was complete. It is a lovely quilt and is filled with many treasured memories for both Gail and her daughter.
