Four Unique Quilts
In January 2025, I received a call from Carol Darnell, asking about creating 4 memory quilts for her grandchildren, using her scrub shirts. Carol is a retired nurse, having spent the last portion of her career as a home health nurse. She is truly a special person, who, as she talks, displays how much she enjoyed her work. Early in her career, she decided to purchase enough scrub shirts to wear a different one each day. She had designs of all kinds, including all the holiday shirts. When she brought the shirts to me, she had 4 huge plastic tubs of shirts, one tub for each grandchild. She had carefully selected which shirts went into each tub. None of the shirts were alike!

And all were in excellent condition and with vibrant colors. Each tub contained 40-42 different shirts.

After cutting all the shirts into the required number of blocks, I completed one quilt at a time, until I had all 4 ready to go to the longarm machine. As I worked on these four unique quilts, I felt it was an honor for me. I could imagine the joy each day when Carol visited her home-bound patients as they waited to see what shirt she was wearing that day.
