Following a friend’s recommendation, Bonnie Pritchett contacted me about making a memory quilt using her deceased husband’s shirts. We met, looked over the shirts, and discussed the ideas she had for her quilt. Thus began the journey of Bonnie’s special quilts
Project begins
The shirts Bonnie brought featured browns, plaids, burgundies, and navies, which coordinated to make a lovely color palette for the quilt. Her first quilt was a queen-sized quilt. It featured 4-patch blocks, surrounded by navy sashing, with a burgundy outer border. The backing was a beautiful floral design featuring coordinating shades of burgundy, beige, and greens.
Second quilt
After seeing her first beautiful quilt, Bonnie asked me to make a throw-sized quilt, using all remaining pieces of the shirts. I again chose 4-patch blocks, in a larger size. For the sashing and the wide outer border, I used the left-over pieces of the floral backing fabric. The quilt is beautiful. And Bonnie’ daughter Carlie will be taking it with her to college this fall. Bonnie’s special quilts are wonderful examples of very special memory quilts.
