Jim’s Tie Pillows

I recently received a call from Nancy Sells of Martinsville, inquiring about memory items.  We discussed many options.  Her recently deceased husband had quite a large collection of ties, many having special meaning to Nancy and  her three grandchildren.  We agreed making tie pillows would be a good starting point for her, and we began planning for Jim’s tie pillows.

She knew the likes and preferences of her three grandchildren, and she shared very sweet stories of them with their grandfather.  Nancy carefully looked over all the ties and chose twenty ties for each pillow.  She brought them to me separated into three bags and made suggestions for the coordinating fabric for the background and backs.

Using my 8” Dresden ruler template, I created a circle of ties for each pillow and then added the backing.  This design creates a lovely circle of ties with the final project about an 18″ pillow.

Jim’s tie pillows were enjoyable to work on, with varied colors and textures.  Nancy did a great job in choosing the ties for each pillow.  I think these will have special meaning for the grandchildren and will bring many memories to mind.
