Wonderful Projects
My cousin Cheryl Joyce, a talented and creative quilt maker, has made many quilts to gift to grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Now it was time to create something special for herself and her husband Jeff. Cheryl and Jeff’s quilts are indeed something special!
Jeff’s quilt

Jeff, her husband, is always supportive of and interested in her quilting, the processes involved, and even in the sewing machines used. His quilt features various shades of browns, greens, and tans. He frequently relates conversations he hears from Cheryl while she is sewing. A frequents phrase “Nah-uh, Cheryl” is often heard as she has made a slight mistake or taken a shortcut with the sewing.
Chery’s quilt

Cheryl saved a collection of feed sacks from our Grandparents Shively’s store in Ferrum, VA. These sacks from the 1940’s and 1950’s were used to make necessary items such as quilts, pillowcases, kitchen towels, and clothes of all types. Using the decorative ends of these feed sacks, Chery created blocks that feature the assorted colors and patterns used on feed sacks. Her finished quilt is not only beautiful, but looking at it causes us to think back to our families and the lives they led. With the beautiful feed sack, and the lovely quilt for Jeff of various shades of browns, and green, I think Chery and Jeff’s quilts will be treasured for a long time.
