Chris Mulholland’s USMC Quilt
Barbara Mulholland contacted me in June with a request for a very special quilt. Her husband Chris served in the United States Marine Corps in various locations. She had secretly saved his shirts and wanted to have a quilt made using these as a surprise for him. I felt it was an honor to create Chris’ USMC quilt.
Shirts Received
Barbara shipped me the shirts she had saved, as well as some logos she had cut from other shirts. She also included a few shirts from his college days. We discussed the type of quilt she wanted, and I designed a quilt using my EQ8 software. She quickly approved the design, and my work began.
Progress
After carefully measuring the size of each shirt’s design, I added the stabilizer to the backs and cut them into the block size needed. I used a basic ivory colored fabric to frame each block. For some of the smaller blocks, I added another frame using a variety of colors blending in with the shirts.
Final Product
Chris’ USMC quilt turned out very nicely. I think he will be very surprised and pleased when Barbara presents it to him. As I worked, I realized Chris had served in some very dangerous areas during his enlistment. THANK YOU CHRIS, for your service to the United States Marine Corps.
Sandra, the quilt you created with old worn shirts is Outstanding I added a few of his college, Boy Scouts and Soccer Referee logos among the Marine duty shirts and you blended all the different logos, sizes and background well.
Chris was very happy and surprised when I showed him. ALS has taken his speech but not his smile. He loves it!
Thank you , Barbara
